The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 of 25

The Second Book of Kings

Chapter 3

¹ In the eighteenth year of King Jehoshaphat of Judah, Jehoram son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria; he reigned twelve years.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 1)

Oh God my beloved Father, You have been and still are our King before the beginning of time and still, some of us do not acknowledge You, however for those like myself who do accept You as their King and God and even as their loving Father great love and joy awaits them Amen.

² He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, though not like his father and mother, for he removed the pillar of Baal that his father had made. ³ Nevertheless he clung to the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he caused Israel to commit; he did not depart from it.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 2 to 3)

There is a saying my God and Father, that says 'like father like son', however even though the son still kept on doing evil acts he was still not as bad as his parents. Oh God I pray that You give us the strength to break the effects of the hereditary gene that dwells in us so that we become like You and not like our human ancestors Amen.

⁴ Now king Mesha of Moab was a sheep breeder, who used to deliver to the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs, and the wool of one hundred rams. ⁵ But when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 4 to 5)

Oh God my Father, our lives are also like the example of the king. The more we invest in our sinful life the more it demands from us to the extent that when we do not satisfy our evil and negative side of ourselves as in the case of addiction it wages war against our spiritual side and we experience conflict against ourselves. The side that we decide to feed is the side that will win this conflict. The decision is ours to make Amen.

⁶ So King Jehoram marched out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 6)

Oh God my Father, today You are also mustering us to get up and take our faith seriously for the challenges that we face today are not easy on our own and we can easily feel discouraged if we are not part of the vine.

⁷As he went he sent word to King Jehoshaphat of Judah, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me will you go with me to battle against Moab?"  He answered, "I will, I am with you my people are your people, my horses are your horses."

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 7)

Oh God my Father, many time the media and politicians turn on the people in order to get their approval in order to push forward the agenda by making it the agenda of the people in order to raise their awareness. Amen.

⁸  Then he asked, "By which way shall we march?" Jehoram answered, "By the way of the wilderness of Edom."

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 8)

And today my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, we are also faced with the same question.

Who are we to follow, the media, politicians and their philosophy, or the voice and way of God as shown to us by means of the Holy Spirit?

⁹ So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of Edom set out; and when they had made a roundabout march of seven days, there was no water for the army or for the animals that were with them.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 9)

Oh God my blessed Father many times in our plans instead of going towards our destination You permit us to go around in circles until it is time to proceed and reach our goal. I realize oh God my Father that at times this period may take a long time. I pray that You help me in this difficult time of my life Amen.

¹⁰ Then the king of Israel,  "Alas! The LORD has summoned us three kings, only to be handed over to Moab". ¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no prophet of the LORD here through whom we may inquire of the LORD?" Then one of the servants of the king of Israel answered, "Elisha son of Shaphat, who used to pour water on the hands of Elijah is here."

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 10 to 11)

Oh God my Father by means of this king of Israel You teach us how to solve the dilemmas of life. the most healthy way is that of asking You if this decision is according to Your will or not, by asking the Holy Spirit to help us discern that decision which is according to Your will which in itself is perfect Amen.

¹² Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him," So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 12)

Oh God my beloved Father, how nice it is to be considered as being a person of God, a person who is a reliable reference point to You my God and Father, a signpost during moments of support and crisis. I pray oh God my Father, that You make of me such a person Amen.

¹³ Elisha said to the king of Israel,"What have I to do with you? Go to your  father's prophets or to your mother's." But the king of Israel said to him, "No, it is the LORD who has summoned us, three kings only to be handed over to Moab."

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 13)

Oh God my beloved Father, one of the many attributes that I really like in You is that You never sent me or others away from You especially during times of need. You never told me to "do it my way! now that I decided to go against Your will but You always welcomed me back as Your son Amen.

¹⁴ Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, whom I serve, were it not that I have regard for King Jehoshaphat of Judah, I would give you neither a look nor a glance.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 14)

Oh God my Father, from my end I tend to reason in the same way, were it not for the love of God and in the name of obedience to You God my Father I would not care or be of service to anybody. However because of You and your name I am the servant of all.

¹⁵ But get me a musician." And then while the musician was playing, the power of the LORD came on him. ¹⁶ And he said, "Thus says the LORD, 'I will make this wadi full of pools.' ¹⁷ For thus says the LORD, 'You shall see neither wind nor rain, but the wadi shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your cattle, and your animals.'

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 15 to 17)

Many time Oh God my Father, we pass judgement on those who are worthy of receiving You, from those who are not. However, You reverse our decisions and still refer to those whom we discriminate against Amen. Thank You Jesus Amen.

¹⁸ This is only a trifle in the sight of the LORD, for he will also hand Moab over to you.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 18)

Oh God my Father You work wonders in my life and everything in this world is trivial compared to Your works. Oh God I pray that You find me a worthy partner for even though I have You I miss human friendship Amen.

¹⁹ You shall conquer every fortified city and every choice city; every good  tree you shall fell, all springs of water you shall stop up, and every good piece of land you shall ruin with stones."

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 19)

Oh, brothers and sisters, we live a very limited life, because many times we depend on our selves and on our skills and resources, however when we learn to depend on You we can experience miracles, for You have no boundaries or limitations. When we join forces with You in a relationship of trust, we have a guarantee of success Amen.

²⁰ The next day, about the time of the morning offering, suddenly water began to flow from the direction of Edom, until the country was filled with water.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 20)

Oh God, my Father how great is the power of praise it is able to move mountains and bring miracles of such intensity making the so-called impossible become possible. I pray for a miracle at this time of my life, in the areas of my work and my social and spiritual life. I wish that the situation of work improves and a healthy solution is found, and I also wish for a partner and above all to be able to see my daughter. I also pray for my psychological healing, for at times I feel as if I am slipping back to a depressive state. May Your will be done my God and Father Amen.

²¹ When all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, from the youngest to the oldest, were called out and were drawn up at the frontier.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 21)

Oh, brothers and sisters of all ages cultures and beliefs put on your spiritual armor all that you have at your disposal for the war against the forces of evil is on. The devil is waging an internal war against our minds, and emotions and is causing stress war and corruption in order to cause sin and disorder which might even lead to the destruction of the planet. I recommend that we arm ourselves with prayer and faith so that we are found a solid means of defense when the Devil chooses us as his target Amen. I pray to You my God and Father to protect us with the power of Your Holy Spirit Amen.

²² When they rose early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 22)

Oh God my Father, many times we think that we perceive reality, however on reflecting that the reality we thought we were perceiving was in fact an illusion and that the decisions we made were based on false impressions or a false impression of that same reality. I pray that I am saved from this trap by perceiving people and situations and people in their situations as based on scripture as brothers and sisters who have their strengths but also their weaknesses brothers and sisters in the sinful nature called humanity. This perception helps me in not being judgmental Amen.

²³ They said, "This is blood; the kings must have fought together, and killed one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil! ²⁴ But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked the Moabites, who fled before them; as they entered Moab they continued the attack.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 23 to 24)

Oh God my Father at times You permit our false impressions to reach outstanding conclusions that we would not be bargaining for. We call such happenings as mistakes. However, I believe that You are in control of every detail of our lives and that even such mistakes are part of Your perfect plan for us. Amen.

²⁵ The cities they overturned, and on every good piece of land everyone threw a stone, until it was covered; every spring of water they stopped up, and every good tree they felled. Only atkir-hareseth did the stone wall remain, until the slingers surrounded and attacked it.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verse 25)

Oh, brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ our God and Saviour. I pray that we be not eager to pass judgment and throw the stone, for we are all sinners worthy of the same penalty. I pray that we keep in mind that today this person sinned and tomorrow it could be us Amen.

²⁶ When the king of Moab saw that the battle was going against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through the opposite the king of Edom; but they could not. ²⁷ Then he took his firstborn son who was to succeed him, and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. And great wrath came upon Israel, so they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

(The Second Book of Kings Chapter 3 verses 26 to 27)

Oh God my beloved Father, King of peace and love. I pray that we learn to imitate You in Your blessed qualities. I pray that we seek peace and not war. I bless You for stopping Donald Trump from waging war against Iran and for making him aware of the destruction and death that was going to take place if war took place Amen.

Oh God I would like to end this meditation on the third chapter of the book of Kings with the following prayer:-

King of Kings! There is none like You! In You we have our beginning and our end. You are in control of all things that take place on earth and nothing happens that You are not aware of, even if this goes against Your will. I thank You for changing evil plans into positive and productive ones, that are there to improve our well being and not bring harm on humanity. I offer You my life, plans, wishes and desires. I place all before You at Your feet in faith that You will have mercy on my human frailty and change the circumstances of my life into positive ones Amen.
